The Okuma Andros was the first reel designed and manufactured to maximize the experience when fishing small-diameter, high-strength braided lines. Andros delivers construction elements and drag output to land larger fish on smaller, more agile gear than ever before thought possible. For 2015, the Andros platform has received numerous upgrades and welcomes all-new larger sizes including the A-12IIa, A-12SIIa and A-16IIa.
Cornerstone to the Andros platform is high-end drag pressure. Capable of producing 15- to 34-pounds of drag at strike with complete freespool, Andros now utilizes the Okuma Dual Force Drag from the Makaira product line to reduce side loading and handle binding under heavy drag settings. Further upgrades across the product line include a stainless steel ratcheting drag plate, machined aluminum shifter gear housing and extended handle length. Anglers will not be able to miss Androsí new cosmetics, featuring bright silver with black spool and handle.
Three new Andros models include the A-12IIa, A-12SIIa and A-16IIa. The A-12IIa includes gear ratios of 4.7:1 and 2.1:1, line capacity of 420-yards of 25-pound monofilament and delivers 27-pounds of drag at strike with complete freespool, 34-pounds at full. The A-12IISa is the same reel with high-speed gearing of 6.4:1 and 2.1:1. The larger A-16IIa includes gearing of 4.3:1 and 1.3:1, capacity of 650-yards of 25-pound monofilament and delivers 34-pounds of drag at strike with complete freespool, 48-pounds at full.
New size 12 and 16 sizes also feature the Okuma Lug and Plug system where harness lugs can be utilized in an upright position or flipped and hidden within the side plates leaving only a smooth top.
Structurally, all Andros ďaĒ series reels maintain the superior elements the family has become known for: rigid 1-pcs machined aluminum frame and left sideplate construction, cold forged, Type-II anodized, machined aluminum spool, 17-4 grade stainless steel helical cut gearing, greased Carbonite drag system utilizing Calís drag grease and the Okuma penetrating Corrosion Resistant Coating process throughout.
